We care about the planet

In Martínez Otero we have a responsible approach to our products and our processes as a part of our corporate and design philosophy.

Ever since our company was founded in 1942, we have had a strong focus on minimising our environmental impact throughout all processes from design to delivery, while ensuring a healthy working environment.

Sustainability is a commitment that Martínez Otero Contract pursues in all phases of the production cycle. It means cutting to the maximum any use of environmentally harmful products, focusing on recycling and sustainable management of waste as well as investing our efforts on energy efficiency.

Martínez Otero Contract adheres to some recognised international standards and programmes that determine our company’s conduct in this critical area. Here is a brief overview of the certifications that we work with every day.

In 2009 the company obtained the ISO 14001 certificate for environmental standards.

This meant reducing to the maximum any use of environmentally harmful products, focusing on recycling, sustainable management of waste, and investing our energy efficiency, minimising our impact on the environment.

To ensure our customers that the timber used in our furniture comes from responsibly managed forests, Martínez Otero is certified PEFC and FSC ® Chain of Custody and thus participates in sustainable forest management.

  • FSC is sponsored by Greenpeace and the World Wide Foundation for Nature (WWF).
  • PEFC certification is a system promoted by government groups and the European timber industry.

Ever since the company was founded, MARTINEZ OTERO has devoted its efforts to the design, manufacturing and marketing of furniture. Thanks to the very HIGH-QUALITY products and services that we offer we are able to ensure the SATISFACTION of all of our customers. In recent times, the company has gone one step further through its commitment to the promotion of SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT and RESPECT for the ENVIRONMENT. These two aspects are present in all of our activities as we endeavour to prevent the loss of forest mass and ensure that we leave to the future generations what has been bequeathed to us. The company is currently developing measures to ensure equal opportunities for all members of staff.

In order to do so, MARTINEZ OTERO CONTRACT has developed an INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM in which we undertake to comply with and ensure compliance with the following principles:

  • The organisation of all of the processes necessary in order to identify the needs and expectations of our customers and understand the requirements that must be met if we want to provide a service that satisfies these needs.
  • Consideration of all environmental variables in the planning and development of our activities, in addition to promoting environmental awareness among our staff.
  • Compliance with the relevant environmental legislation and regulations related to Sustainable Forest Management that are applicable to our activities. Establishing other commitments and making great efforts to prevent pollution and minimise the potential environmental impact that is generated by our activities.

  • Verifying the effectiveness of the Integrated Management System by carrying out periodic checks to ensure compliance with the Quality, Environment, Chain of Custody and Equality Policy and the Objectives and Goals that have been established.
  • Ensuring compliance with the occupational health and safety requirements in the performance of all of our activities.
  • Making great efforts to prevent the trade and purchase of timber, fibres or any materials that have been illegally harvested, produced in violation of traditional and civil rights, produced in forests whose high conservation value is being threatened by management activities or from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.
  • Guaranteeing the application of due diligence in the acquisition of wood and its derivatives in order to ensure their origin and legal provenance according to the terms established in the EUTR Regulation, as well as preventing the trade of any timber or wood products that have been produced in breach of the applicable legislation.
  • Promoting the understanding and dissemination of our Quality, Environment, Chain of Custody and Equality Policy both inside and outside of our organisation, through continuous training and communication with our workers and by making this Policy public.
  • Establishing and developing measures to ensure equal treatment and opportunities for both men and women, without any direct or indirect discrimination based on sex. Promoting and encouraging measures that are put in place to achieve real equality within the organisation.
