High above Barcelona on Tibidabo, with the city and the Mediterranean unfolding below, the historic Gran Hotel La Florida has reopened as METT Barcelona. Opened in 1925, the hotel has for a century welcomed guests such as Ernest Hemingway and Bruce Springsteen, and now begins a new chapter as part of the Sunset Hospitality Group portfolio.
The new interior design, conceived by Kokaistudios under the architectural direction of CMV Architects, proposes an understated, approachable take on Mediterranean luxury: noble materials, restored marble and wood, and a timeless palette that engages with the site's light and views while preserving the Noucentista character of the original building.
Our custom furniture solutions accompany that journey from the very entrance. In the lobby and reception area, we developed the oak veneer cladding and the shelving units that dress the front desk, alongside furniture pieces such as the entrance lobby pedestal and the guest service desks.
In the Florida Lounge, the upholstered furniture — sofas, low-profile armchairs, consoles, and coffee tables with glass or stone tops — was produced in our workshop in solid wood with bespoke upholstery, always following the aesthetic direction set by the design studio for the space as a whole.
Martínez Otero's involvement extends to the new wellness area. In the SPA changing rooms, a good example of our work is the natural stone vanities with integrated mirror, paired with a large glass screen that filters light through to the indoor pool, in addition to the lockers unit, the wardrobe unit, and the furniture for the gym corridor.
In the outdoor pool area, we completed the ensemble with original Kettal collections — the Barcelona-based outdoor furniture brand — whose supply and installation we coordinated alongside our own joinery for enclosures and planters, ensuring a seamless transition from the climate-controlled interior to the open air.
