W Edinburgh
Scottish tradition with a contemporary twist

W Edinburgh comprises three distinctive buildings around St James Square: The Ribbon Building, James Craig Walk and Quarter House.

Together, they offer 199 rooms and 45 suites, many of which feature private terraces that invite guests to discover the city from a fresh perspective.

The interior design, conceived by the renowned studio Jestico + Whiles, reinterprets the very best of Scotland through a contemporary lens, rooted in local heritage and enriched by creative collaborations. This international architecture practice is recognised for its sustainable design ethos and broad experience in the hospitality sector.

The aesthetic proposal draws from materials native to this coastal city, built upon volcanic rock — a natural element echoed throughout the interiors. Dark “charred” wood panelling in the communal areas is paired with copper tones to create a refined and contemporary atmosphere. This combination is also reflected in the wall cladding, for instance.

This strong connection with the surroundings extends to the rooms, many open onto private terraces.

Inside, our bespoke solutions leave a distinctive mark, with standout features such as circular beds and vanities composed of striking round mirrors and dark-toned solid surface countertops.

On the upper levels, the hotel’s panoramic terraces host iconic dining venues such as Scotland’s first Sushisamba, the W Lounge, and João’s Place — a speakeasy-style bar with a bold identity, where we also played a key role.

The main bar at João’s Place is a perfect example: a unique piece with a metal structure, clad in Verde Ubatuba Bahia natural stone. Its front is finished with ceramic tiles in a malachite feather pattern, and a solid brass footrest adds a refined, sculptural touch.
